CURCHOREM: The construction work of new bridge at Quepem connecting Amona and Cotta wards commenced in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar on Sunday.

The culvert connecting Amona and Cotta collapsed during rainy season and people have been facing severe hardship as they have to travel almost 2 kms to enter the above wards.

“Keeping the future requirements in mind for the benefits of the people of both wards, the new six-metre wide and ten-metre long bridge will be constructed instead of a culvert by spending around Rs 43 lakh with retaining wall and railings on both the sides,” said Kavlekar.

He informed that two vehicles will be able to pass on the bridge once completed.

QMC chairperson Dayesh Naik informed that Kavlekar managed to get the grants sanctioned for the construction of the bridge despite the financial crunch faced by the State.

Councillor Deepali Naik, PWD Assistant Engineer Swapnil Naik and Junior Engineer Pravin Naik were present.
