Consumers blame civic body for the mess in Mapusa fish market

MAPUSA: Consumers and the residents of Mapusa have complained of the unhygienic conditions prevailing in the fish market and have blamed the civic body for the mess.

Expressing their anger over unhygienic conditions in the fish market, the consumers complained that waste water continuous flows on the road causing the entire area to stink.

They claimed that a chamber which has been left open has resulted in the constant flow of waste water as the areas have turned into a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. The residents fear that the unhygienic condition may cause the spread of malaria, dengue and other diseases.

Since the administrative building, Bardez bazaar and several restaurants are located nearby, they people complained of being compelled to breathe polluted air.

Due to unhygienic conditions and the constant flow of waste water, the spot which was earlier used for parking is lying unused.

“Waste water is flowing onto the road causing the area to stink. The main administrative building of Bardez is located right opposite the fish market as well as other shopping centres, restaurants and commercial complex. I wonder what the people working here must be going through due to the air pollution. The Mapusa municipality has failed to maintain the fish market “, Sachin Kitlekar, a resident said.
