PONDA: Stating that the Consumer Protection Act 2019 protects the rights of consumers, Civil Supplies Secretary Sanjit Rodrigues called upon consumers to know their rights and file complaints with the proper forum.
Speaking at the National Consumers Rights Day programme held at Agri Bazaar Complex hall,
Rodrigues said that today there are some fraudsters trying to loot people by luring them to buy goods online. The customer should learn how to buy genuine goods and not to fall prey to fake items.
He urged consumers not to buy goods blindly, but at the same time exercise extreme care to see the GSTIN number on receipts. Similarly, they should also glance at MRP, quality, weight mentioned on packing, etc.
He said students clubs are formed in schools and higher secondary schools to create awareness on precautions to be taken while buying goods online and how to file complaints in case of faulty items.
The programme was organised by the Department of Civil Supplies and Goa Electricity Department with the theme “Consumer Protection in the era of E-commerce and digital trade”.
Speaking on the occasion, Civil Supplies Minister Ravi Naik said that no plastic rice has been supplied through the Civil Supplies Department and added that fortified rice is supplied by the Centre, which is laced with vitamins.
Naik said Goa cashew is a quality product but some people import cashews and sell it as Goan cashew thereby spoiling the name of the coastal State which needs to be stopped and consumers should file complaints.
Conciliation Committee member Roland Martins said the programme was held to create awareness about consumers’ rights and their responsibilities.
He said the programme was aimed to provide information about new laws protecting the rights of consumers and how to file complaints at proper forums for justice.
