Contestant protests against caste certificate rejection

QUEPEM: Ward No 3 contestant from Sanguem Poornima Panchwadkar protested at Ambedkar Chowk along with Swabhiman SC Samaj after her papers were rejected by deputy Collector Sanguem, saying the caste certificates she produced from Karnataka were not valid in the State.

“If voting rights are given to the migrants then why my right for contesting elections is invalid,” asked Panchwadkar, who added that when she got married with a Goan, she was given voting card, Aadhar card, ration card and pan card.

Gaurish Parwar, a member of the Swabhiman SC Samaj, said that they have already written to the Election Commission of Goa and also to the president of the SC Samaj on this issue.

Parwar has requested Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who, they hoped, will intervene and help them in the issue.

They also threatened to move High Court for justice.

Deputy CM of Goa and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral also assured that he will put up the issue in front of the  CM.
