MARGAO: The continuous fire incidents this month has put extra pressure on the fire fighters as yet another fire broke out late on Sunday evening at Fatorda.
However, officials of the Fire and Emergency Services are of strong opinion that fire incidents are not natural ones but purposely done to disturb the society. They demanded an investigation into the matter.
On Sunday late evening, fire fighters stationed at Margao Fire Station rushed to douse a fire in Fatorda. This incident was reported at around 8pm by a local journalist from Margao. At the same time another fire incident was reported from Vaddie beach, Benaulim.
A few days before, similar incident had happened at the Agha Khan garden and that too during late evening.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Herculano Gil Souza, the Station Officer at Margao Fire Station, said that these fire incidents are man-made and miscreants are purposely setting dry grass on fire.
“Actually, these issues need to be taken seriously and concerned authorities should investigate the matter so that nobody dares to repeat the same”, he stated.
He further said that a large amount of public money is wasted in these fire incidents.
Citizens too are of the opinion that police departments need to take such issues seriously and investigate them.
“Culprits involved in setting fire to dry grass or in the forest need to be booked and punished. It is impossible to believe that dry grass or dry tree trunks are catching fire, that too during the night time, when the temperature is less. Biodiversity is being destroyed deliberately by unknown persons for the reasons best known to them,” said Philip Fernandes from Margao.
He also urged the government to look into the matter of fire incidents seriously and issue directions to the police department for investigating such incidents.
