MARGAO: Continuous rainfall resulted in flooding at different places in Salcete including Margao where the road leading to old railway station was totally water logged raising doubts about the pre-monsoon cleaning undertaken by the Margao Municipal Council.
The road leading to old railway station is a busy one as there are many shops by the side of the road including some very prominent ones and traffic on this road was totally haphazard as motorists tried to pass through the water.
At Fatorda too, the road next to the stadium in front of the Damodar temple was totally flooded and water splashed as vehicles moved past. Surprisingly, while the road leading to Arlem was totally under water, the road leading to Margao was not flooded.
The Fire and Emergency Services had to rush to Agalle to assist people as water had entered their houses and had to also rush behind power house near Magnum Opticians as the area was flooded.
They also attended to three calls of trees falling across the roads. While one tree had collapsed in Benaulim, another had fallen in Orlim and the third was behind the Gandhi Market in Margao.
Incidentally work on cutting the oak tree at Sirvodem commenced today and will continue tomorrow with the private cutter engaged by Fire Services undertaking the work.
