Contract linemen helpers to move court

PANJIM: Linemen helpers of the Electricity Department, who have been recruited on contract basis, have decided to move the court, as the authorities have failed to keep the promise of giving them fixed employment on completion of the contract period.

Speaking to the media, Joyal Correia said, “We had been promised by the department that after five years of contract service all would be taken as permanent employees but they have failed to do so.”
He added, “Recently, new recruitment was done at the Electricity Department. All the new linemen helpers have been taken on permanent basis. What about us? Priority should have been given to us.”
He said the workers had given the department a week to meet the demands, but since the department failed to do so, they have decided to move the court.
“It’s not only us but there are others, who have been working as contract-based helpers for more than 10 years and still haven’t been fixed. The department should have given priority to us,” Correia said.
