Contract staff on COVID services will be accorded priority: Min

Says administrative approval given to convert Navelim Health Centre into 20-bedded hospital

MARGAO: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday informed that all contract medical staff engaged by the government for COVID services will be given first priority during job recruitment, which will commence soon. 

He said administrative approval has been accorded to convert Health Centre at Navelim into 20-bedded hospital and assured to follow-up the matter. 

Rane was addressing a function at Navelim Health Centre to felicitate doctors, nurses and frontline workers. 

Local MLA Luizinho Faleiro, besides, Dr Jose D’Sa, Director of Health Services, Immunization Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar and others were present. 

Appreciating the efforts of the medical fraternity, Rane said, “Hundreds of contract medical staffers have been taken by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic. We appreciate their sacrifices  and hence we have decided to give them first priority at the time of job recruitment announced by the government”. 

Stating that the administrative approval has been given to convert the Navelim Health Centre into 20-bedded hospital, he said, “I will see to it that the file is cleared by the concerned authorities at the earliest and will personally do the follow-up of the proposal”. 

Rane said, “Goa is the only State which gives free medicines and the best facilities with regards to COVID-19 treatment and services. Goa has the best testing machinery. Health Department is ready to support the vaccination drive at ward levels. Identify the places and will send our team”. 

Faleiro said, “Navelim people have a dream to convert the health centre into 20-bedded hospital. This health centre should be fully equipped before the COVID third wave. Our request is that give some powers to the health centre to organise vaccination drives at ward levels”. 

Dr Jose D’Sa urged the medical staff to continue their sacrifices during the pandemic period in order to face the challenges of the third wave. 

The medical staffers besides frontline workers at Navelim Health Centre were felicitated by the Health Minister and Navelim MLA.
