PANJIM: Contract teachers who have been protesting recently refused to accept the conditions put forward by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday and added that they will spell out their future course of action on Monday.
“The CM had called us to discuss the matter of regularisation. During the meeting we were told that our increment has been increased from Rs 16,125 to Rs 25,000 and with TADA, and with annual increment with some percentage and annual renewable of 12 months every year. But we refused to accept such temporary proposals and remained firm with our demand of regularisation of services,” said one of the agitators on Sunday.
It may be recalled that these contract teachers, who have been hired as part of the Samgrah Shiksha Abhiyan have been protesting at Azad Maidan, Panjim with the demand that their jobs be regularised. The protesters have lamented that even though they are employed as part-time teachers, they have been given responsibilities of full time teachers for years and their demands have only been met with promises but no change in situation.
