The approved proposal was for extending the contractual period of the 239 employees from October 1, 2014 till March 2015.
Those whose services have been extended include programme officers, assistant engineers, and accountants. These employees are presently working under this scheme from the initial 458 employees in 2008-09 who had been recruited.
The cabinet also decided to scrap the proposal to have another jail at Curca, sources said.
The ongoing strike by security guards was also discussed at the cabinet meeting, though it was not part of the agenda.
