Ponda: Speaking about how COVID-19 has affected the State’s economic activities and revenue generating sources for the public too, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik has called on the government to take all the 40 MLAs into confidence to discuss an economic revival plan. Pointing out that it will be important to announce it before the monsoons begin; the Congress MLA stated that the government should urgently convene an emergency assembly session, which could be held on one day, to discuss the same.
He said there is no problem of social distancing at the Assembly complex as well.
“We have experienced MLAs including former Chief Ministers like Luizinho Faleiro, Digambar Kamat, Pratapsingh Rane who can share their ideas. All the MLAs can suggest solutions. When we are facing an emergency, it is not only the ruling that can work but all the MLAs can help out,” he added.
He further suggested that it was important to a joint meeting with municipal councillors, ZP members and panchayat members along with ministers, govt officials, coordination committee members etc.
Naik who had earlier demanded that the government come out with a financial relief package, especially for the small businessmen and underprivileged, suggested that construction activities could commence to allow labourers and daily wage workers to earn an income, while ensuring social distancing.
He further added that all the abandoned vehicles lying with various govt depts for many years, should be scrapped and auctioned so that revenue can be generated through it.
Naik, has detailed similar suggestions in a letter to the CM, where he has also recommended expediting the approval process for proposals including those pending with the PDA, TCP, municipal bodies, panchayats and other depts. He elaborated how the government can collect tax, stamp duty and fees through such processes and permits.
