PANJIM: Goa government has floated the idea of converting exhausted mining pits into hospitality or environment projects which will help retain the environmental balance.
“The exhausted mining pits which are deserted should be converted into hospitality or environmental project. This will help in retaining the environmental balance,” Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on the sidelines of event “Run For Tree” held in Panjim on Sunday.
He said all precautions are taken to ensure that the environment is not damaged after resumption of mining in Goa.
Parsekar quoted his visit to mining site of Sesa Iron Ore at Sankhalim to explain how mines could be restored to their past glory.
“Other mine owners should learn from the rehabilitation executed by the company,” he said.
Forest Minister Rajendra Arlekar said Goa’s greenery has to be retained considering that it is the part of western ghat.
“Goa has a rich ecological biodiversity and we should maintain it,” he said.
