Cooking contest marks São João at Colmorod

MARGAO: For the fifth consecutive year ‘O Re Sao Joao’ was celebrated with brotherhood at Colmorod with the residents of Colmorod and Ratwado joining hands first to cook the various dishes and later to compete with each other in the various games held.

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat visited in the morning and complimented Savio Coutinho and his team for organising the programme successfully. “Last year I had lunch here and I must compliment all of you who organise this every year,” he said.
In the morning the women were engaged in cooking lunch that had pulao, chicken xacuti, pork amsol, prawn curry rice and rice along with kismor and salad. Their husbands and children joined them in the afternoon to have the lunch together.
As they were having lunch, savories like hole and patoleo were kept for steaming while soj was prepared in the morning. 
Ratwado proved to be fitter than Colmorod resident as the Ratwado ladies won the ‘tablam’ game while the youth from that ward defeated Colmorod youngsters at ‘logorio’. Diana Fernandes’ ‘ale bele’ were judged to be the best traditional Goan dish.However, Colmorod showed its supremacy in the creative side as Elly Cardoso from there won the prize for the best ‘kopel’ and costume also.
