Cop charged with molesting a minor moves around freely

Despite an FIR being registered, the police constable is neither suspended nor arrested; Victims Assistance Unit seeks intervention of the CM and DGP

PANJIM: A police constable, who allegedly simultaneously conducts classes to empower the youth to fight back assaults and attacks – without permission from his department – has ironically been accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile.

Constable Krishna Goltekar is facing serious charges under the Indian Penal Code, Goa Children’s Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act but has not been suspended or arrested despite a First Information Report registered on May 24, 2022.

Victims Assistance Unit (VAU) has now approached the police brass seeking justice for the minor victim. In his letter to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Director General of Police Jaspal Singh, VAU Co-ordinator Emidio Pinho stated that the alleged accused is moving around freely although an FIR has been registered against him.

“We would like to inform you about FIR No. 06/2022, concerning Women Police Station, dated May 24, 2022, a case of aggravated sexual assault on a minor child by a police constable. This officer has been conducting private classes for boxing, karate, etc, at his gym which is registered under the name of his wife. The concerned constable has applied for anticipatory bail and hence has not been arrested to date. The said police official namely Krishna Goltekar is still on active duty and hence not placed under suspension even when the FIR stands registered don May 24, 2022,” states an email to the concerned.

While this act has left the department red-faced, it has still failed to take disciplinary action against the constable.

Herald is in receipt of a copy of the FIR that names the constable as accused of the offence.
