Cop suspended for forging medical certificate to avail leave

PANJIM: The Panaji police on Friday suspended constable Nitesh Chodankar for allegedly producing a fake medical certificate to avail leave. This is for the second time the cop has been placed under suspension.

According to the police, the FIR has been registered against the constable Nitesh Chodankar, a resident of Mayem, for allegedly preparing a fake medical certificate of Mayem Public Health Centre (PHC) and forging the signature of the medical in-charge and producing it as original at the time of resuming duty.

“Nitesh had joined Panaji Police Station in 2021. He had a habit of going on sick leave and producing fake medical certificates. Earlier also he was caught and suspended. This time the action has been initiated on a complaint of the doctor, whose name he used for availing sick leave. He would take leave of 10 or 15 days. This is the second time he has been suspended. As he was not punctual in his duty, we sent him on reserved duty. He was reinstated recently,” Panaji Police Inspector (PI) Nikhil Palekar told O Heraldo.
