PANJIM: A Lower Division Clerk (LDC) working in the Account Section of the River Navigation Department (RND) has been placed under suspension with immediate effect for alleged misappropriation of government funds.
The suspension order was issued by Captain of Ports/Head of Department Captain James Braganza.
In the suspension order, it has been mentioned that the LDC failed to maintain the cash book for two years 2018-19 and 2019-20 and the anomalies/discrepancies/irregularities were found during her tenure as cashier specially with regard to the cash book and cash/government money as per the audit report submitted by the Office of the Accountant General dated December 17, 2019 and November 12, 2021.
The LDC violated receipt of government revenues, dues etc and failed to deposit the cash in the government account. The cash embezzled by the LDC is about Rs 3.62 lakh, it was informed.
During the suspension period, the LDC has been asked to report to the Accounts Section of RND, Betim and not to leave headquarters without obtaining prior permission of the Captain of Ports/Head of Department.
