Cop vs Cop: A Police Inspector files a criminal complainant against a Sub-Inspector in Ponda

According to complaint by PI Suraj Samant, PSI Aditya conspired with a foreign national to fraudulently obtain call data records of his personal mobile phone

PANJIM: In a case of data privacy violation, Suraj Samant, a Police Inspector currently stationed at Government Railway Police (GRP), has lodged a formal complaint against PSI Aditya Velip and a foreign national residing in London for allegedly conspiring to fraudulently obtain and share the Call Data Records (CDR) and Subscriber Details Record (SDR) of the complainant’s personal mobile number.

The CDR/SDR was reportedly obtained under the pretext of conducting an official police inquiry but was misused by sharing it a foreign national, in violation of privacy rights under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.

Inspector Samant’s complaint further details that the alleged conspiracy came to light after he responded to a petition filed by foreign national in April 2024.

During an investigation, it was discovered that his call records had been annexed to the petition, raising concerns about how such confidential information was accessed and shared without his consent.

The complaint states that PSI Aditya Velip, during his tenure at the Ponda Police Station, misused his official position by obtaining the CDR/SDR and sharing it with foreign national.

This action is claimed to be a violation of the Inspector’s right to privacy and potentially breaches multiple laws, including Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), IT Act 2000 and the Indian Telegraph Act.

Samant has demanded for immediate and strict action against PSI Velip, urging the authorities to investigate this matter thoroughly to ensure justice and uphold the integrity of data privacy rights.
