Cops accused of extortion at Vasco

VASCO: Police attached to the PCR van at Vasco has been accused of harassing and demanding money from the tourists at Baina beach.
On Monday at about 4.30 pm, the police of the PCR van (GA-07-G-0259) at Baina beach asked Karnataka tourists, who had arrived in a jeep (KA-01-M-2140), to come to the PCR van with the vehicle documents.
After verifying the documents, the police personnel of the van then allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 from the tourists and later released the documents.
When contacted, the Karnataka tourist stated, “We were having some snacks at mobile food cart when the police summoned us to the van with the vehicle documents and later took Rs 1,000 from us.”
When another vehicle (AP-31-J-1197) reached the beach, the PCR van rushed behind it and demanded the vehicle documents. However, the tourists whose vehicle papers were in order produced it to the policemen in the van. The policemen allegedly tried to extract money from the tourists, but the tourists refused to pay .
Speaking to Herald, Ravi Kumar, a tourist said, “The police first asked for the documents and later demanded Rs 3,000.”
 Vasco PI Rupendra Shetgaonkar stated that the police on PCR van is posted by the PCR office in Panjim and he would forward the complaint against the police personnel of the PCR van to the Panjim PCR office for further action.1
