PANJIM: A constable attached to Panjim coastal police station deciding to celebrate his birthday with his colleagues has run into controversy after some liquor cans/bottles were found in the outpost premises.
The department has launched an inquiry even as all those who attended the party were subjected to a breathalyser test which was going on till late Saturday night.
Sources told Herald that the ‘birthday boy’ decided to cook food for his colleagues and invited his colleagues for lunch at the outpost. It is at this time that a journalist clicked photos of the beer cans/bottles, allegedly found behind the outpost. “All the four on-duty constables and a few off-duty constables (from IRB, tecnical unit, etc) were invited for the lunch treat. The constable who cooked for his colleagues on his birthday (Saturday) was also off duty. It is learnt that some of them brought beer cans/bottles and this was recorded by the journalist. We have initiated an inquiry into this incident,” a senior police officer told Herald.
While a clear picture will be known as the inquiry progresses, for now, the on duty constables were taken for medical examination to confirm if they had consumed alcohol. “The report was negative. The others have been called and their medical examination is underway,” a police source informed Herald as doctors at Goa Medical College were conducting the test late Saturday night.
As a part of the inquiry, the department has called for the photographs, while statements of the witness as well as those who attended the party at the outpost will be recorded.
For the birthday boy, this is indeed an unforgettable party for different reasons.
