MARGAO, JULY 29
After the gunfire a week ago, the Canaguinim-Betul plateau witnessed a search operation by the police to recover the arms used by the kidnappers against the men-in-uniform.
Wednesday saw the police conducted a thorough search of the rocky terrain with the main accused in search of the firearm, but in vain.
Vasco PI Sagar Ekoskar led the police team to the site early Wednesday morning and searched the difficult terrain after the accused confessed that they abandoned the arms in the wild bushes.
A number of places were searched by the police on the plateau at the instance of the accused, but could not find the guns. The police are likely to return back on the plateau with the accused in a bid to lay their hands on the firearms.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that while two of the accused were nabbed by the police on the plateau, the remaining two accused had escaped from the area on the very first night by giving the police a slip.
It is learnt that two of the accused walked down to a bus stand at Ambeamol and spent the night there. The duo is believed to have confessed that they later took a bus and came to Margao, even as the police launched the manhunt on the Betul Plateau in search of them on Saturday.
