PANJIM: The Russian who had fled from the detention centre in Mapusa is still untraceable and the Mapusa police along with a team of Crime Branch have started a manhunt to track him down.
It may be recalled that Dmitri Aleksandrov, a Russian national who was lodged at the detention centre in Mapusa escaped on Wednesday evening by cutting a metal roof rafter.
Police have booked the accused under section 14 of the Foreigners Act after he escaped the Detention centre housed in the Mapusa police station campus. Dmitri was convicted for overstaying and was lodged in the Detention centre by order of the FRRO on February 9.
The North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan has informed that a team of Crime Branch is assisting the Mapusa police to track down the fled Russian detainee.
The FRRO Branch said that they have communicated about the incident to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to communicate to the Russian embassy.
