Investigating officer head constable Vithu Zamil informed that the accused Tandel was entrusted with Rs 2 lakh by trawler owner Rodrigues to be handed over to his friend Crisanio, from 4th ward, Colva. However, accused Tandel neither handed the cash nor returned the same to the owner and the accused is said to be absconding.
Three held for car theft
VASCO: Vasco police on Friday arrested three persons in connection with the theft of a new Maruti Ertiga car. The Vasco police managed to nab Kasin Hawaldar of Katem Baina, Vasco, Naveed Shaik of Mangor Hill, Vasco and Durgesh Mallappa of Katem Baina Vasco red-handed while in the process of selling the car with a fake registration number plate. Two other accused are absconding. According to Vasco police, five accused had stolen the brand new car and after fixing a fake registration plate, Hawaldar, Shaik and Mallappa were in the process of selling the car to a client at Bogmallo. On receiving a tip, a police team led by PSI Nikhil Palekar rushed to the site and arrested Hawaldar, Shaik and Mallappa and seized the vehicle.
Thrashing floor demanded at Davorlim
MARGAO: The gram sabha of Davorlim village Panchayat unanimously resolved to request the government to acquire land admeasuring 1022 sq mts for the purpose of thrashing ground for paddy. Members pointed that there is no thrashing ground for paddy in the jurisdiction of Davorlim-Dicarpale. They said that 90 per cent of the population comprises of Scheduled Tribes community, who are engaged in paddy cultivation without engaging paid labourers.
Police lauded for solving chapel theft
MARGAO: The Voice of Malbhat Associaiton has complimented the Margao police for detecting the burglary reported at the Santa Cruz Chapel on August 12. Association President Elvis Fernandes, while expressing satisfaction over the detection, said the police team led by PI Sudesh Naik detected the case on the very same evening. Elvis along with members of the Association called on the Margao Police station in-charge and thanked him and his police team for the breakthrough. The burglary of the donation box of the chapel had triggered an uproar after local residents found the donation box tampered with and the cash stolen.

MARGAO: Francisca Fernandes, a resident of Pedda-Benaulim died of electrocution on the morning of August 14 at her residence. The Colva police have registered a case of unnatural death and have also written to the power department authorities to verify the cause of the electrocution that led to the death of Fernandes. Further investigation is in progress.
Theft at Seraulim house
MARGAO: Upon complaint filed by Cielda Fernandes of Duncolim-Seraulim, the Colva police have registered an offence under section 380 IPC for theft of gold and cash totally amounting Rs 1.88 lakh from her house. The complainant stated that unknown accused person effected entry into her house through the gallery door and committed theft of 1 gold bangle, 1 gold chain, 6 finger rings, 2 pair of earrings, cash of Rs 3,000 and 450 US dollars all worth Rs 1.88 lakh, between Midnight to 4 am on August 9. PSI Ritesh N Tari is investigating further.
Rampant absenteeism at Aquem power office
MARGAO: Following complaints of absenteeism in the Power House office at Aquem, a senior power official went on an unannounced visit to the office only to find many an employee absent. The Executive Engineer Sheikh Nizamuddin is believed to have found a number of employees attached to Division IV absent. He is believed to have prepared a detailed report which will be submitted to the Chief Electrical Engineer for necessary action. The surprise check on the attendance comes in the wake of complaints of staff playing truant putting the consumers to great inconvenience. The Executive Engineer is believed to have taken signatures of the sections in-charge over the absenteeism. When contacted, Sheikh confirmed that many an employee was found absent from the office.
