PANJIM: In a bid to prevent Vasco-type incidents in future, Panjim police have insisted that managements of educational institutions should install cell phone jammers and CCTVs on campuses and at entry and exit points of their respective premises. This is significant especially since students themselves are seen frequently engrossed on their cell phones, possibly with questionable elements, rather than their studies on campus.
The suggestions were put before 34 heads and representatives of city institutions at a meeting held at Police Headquarters on Saturday.
“The purpose is to formalize cooperation between the police and school and college authorities regarding security and prevention of crimes,” North Goa SP Vishram Borkar said. Other senior Panjim sub division officers also addressed the meeting.
“CCTVs are a must to record every happening in the premises. The entrances and exits should compulsorily have CCTVs,” the officer told the participants.
The institutions have also been advised to review the security measures within and outside their campuses. The authorities are asked to take
the responsibility of the safety of the students and keep an eye on strangers in the premises.
As decided in a review meeting held by then North SP Vijay Singh, a fortnight ago, inspections in the premises have already begun. Additionally, the department has decided to include campuses in their daily beat patrols.
