PONDA: Manoj Surya Naik, 54, resident of Gokhadev Nagar, Kundaim was arrested by the police for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl from Ponda.
This is the second rape case of a minor being reported at the Ponda police station with a week. Earlier a police constable Vijay Gaunekar from Dharbandora was arrested for raping a 15-year-old here. The department has placed the cop under suspension.
Police stated that the girl’s mother in a complaint to the police stated that the accused had allegedly raped the girl in 2019 and case was registered on Sunday as the child had narrated about the horrific incident to her mother only yesterday.
Police have registered an offence under u/s 376, 354, 506(ii) IPC and sec 8 of Goa Children’s Act 2003 and Sec 4 & 8 of POCSO Act.
