Cops probe pub where tourists were assaulted

CALANGUTE: After two tourists from Ahmednagar were allegedly assaulted in a pub last week, Calangute police have written to the Excise Department to verify the licence details of the pub as they were not found to be in order.

The two tourists from Ahmednagar were allegedly assaulted after they were lured with offers of being provided Russian girls and then robbed of Rs 30,000 by two persons, Santosh Chavan and Pruthvi Patole, working as bouncers at the pub, last Tuesday.

Calangute police informed that the excise licence of the pub was issued to one Urban D’Souza to sell retail IMFL/country liquor on the premise X Bar and Restaurant Cooda located at 2/188B-16, 186/2E, Naikavaddo, Calangute, while the pub where the licence is being used is located at shop no 15 at Vanessa Theatre Shopping Complex. Police said they have written to the Excise Department to verify the facts and whether the licence is being misused and to take appropriate action against the owner and to revoke the licence.

The tourists had complained that they had come to Goa on a holiday when the accused lured them to the pub in Calangute. “The touts took us to a pub and offered Russian girls and many more things and when we refused they beat us up and took Rs 30,000 from our accounts,” the complainant said. The tourists were confined in a closed room and beaten up mercilessly until they gave the accused the G-Pay pin number for their mobile and transferred Rs 30,000 to their accounts.
