PANJIM: Goa Police on Wednesday launched the unique ‘Little Police’ concept which aims at teaching children about law and order.
Goa Police claimed that the concept is the only one in the country and will help shape future citizens.
DGP T N Mohan said that next year the concept of ‘Young Cop’ will be introduced in which the college students will be enrolled. Little police includes school children and teachers.
IGP Sunil Garg said the main idea behind this is to reduce the gap between the police and the people. “We want to eradicate fear and misunderstanding among children about the police. We will be creating awareness among students about policing,” Garg said.
He said that school children will be taken to the police station and interact with cops, visit their armoury, library etc.
Students will be given identity cards of little police on which helpline numbers will be printed and they can contact for any emergency.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that being a teacher he liked this concept and stressed on the traffic awareness among children.
“Over 80% of accidental deaths in Goa are in the age group of 16 to 30 years and if this generation if educated (on traffic rules) at an early age then this will surely change,” Parsekar said.
Little police will also train girls on self defence. So far 92 students have already been trained by Goa Police experts.
