PANJIM: While the country has witnessed a couple of arrests for stealing Aadhaar data indicating how easy it is to obtain the confidential information, Goa Police has sought access to the data to crackdown on crime.
DGP Muktesh Chander said it is important that the Department get permission to access to the Aadhaar database for identification, prevention and detection of crime in Goa.
“With Aadhaar database linkage to crime, it will be easy for police to identify multi-state oriented criminals and history sheeters. However, due to Supreme Court orders, database linkage to police department is refrained by the Centre,” he said.  In a recent case at Bengaluru, an IIT alumnus had demonstrated to the police how easy it was to access Aadhaar data from the data base. The techie-cum-entrepreneur was then arrested for the data theft following a complaint by the UIDAI authorities.
A senior police officer told Herald that Goa Police believes in protected and secured use of Aadhaar details.
