QUEPEM: The warring factions over the pop-up bazaar as part of the Chanderi Cultural festival were brought to the negotiating table by Quepem DySP Nilesh Rane and the issue was partially sorted out.

The Curchorem polices then brought about a compromise between the two parties – the Curchorem Market Merchants Association and the Chanderi programme committee and then it was decided that the festival would take place but five readymade garments stalls put up by the committee would be kept on hold from December 22 to 26 as the traders feared that it would affect their business adversely during the Christmas season, to which both the parties agreed.

“Five stalls selling readymade garments, leather items, furniture, gifts, plastic and paper flowers will not be allowed to operate at the festival as it would eat into the profits of the market traders and have been kept on hold from December 22 to 26 and the sale will resume on December 27,” said Chanderi programme committee president Mortu Naik, who added that both the parties have agreed to it.

Curhcorem Market Merchants Association president Rosha Pereira stated that they were called by the DySP to sort out the issue and both warring factions decided to abide by the terms and conditions of the sale.

Pereira alleged that the committee was erecting 100 to 150 stalls in addition to 60 food stalls without obtaining any permission from the Municipality. “Most of these stalls are run by outsiders at the cost of livelihood of Goans,” said Pereira.
