Cops suspect fake visa racket keeping Nigerians in Goa

PANJIM: Goa Police suspect a fake visa racket is helping Nigerian nationals stay longer in Goa. The revelation came after Porvorim police arrested two Nigerian nationals in a narcotics raid last week.

One of the accused who was residing in Goa since 2009 has not visited his country even once but is in possession of a stamped passport by the Nigerian embassy.
Sources said that Emmanuel Nkeoga Chidi said he paid Rs 80,000 for the visa stamping process and confessed that he sent the passport through mail and Nigerian embassy approved it and sent it back to him in Goa.
Porvorim Police have now written to the SP, Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) Panjim to verify the same and look into the authenticity of the visa stamped on the passport.
Porvorim Police inspector Jivba Dalvi confirmed that they have written to the FRRO and also asked to verify the bank accounts of both the accused.
Police also asked FRRO to check with the Indian embassy in Nigeria what business the accused mentioned while availing the business visa.
Last week Porvorim Police had arrested two Nigerians Nkeoga Chidi (38) and Lionze Nwato Ambrose (32) for peddling weed popularly known as ‘marijuana’. Police had recovered two kg of the narcotics from the accused who were then arrested.
Police had also seized a Goa registered motorbike from the accused.
Chidi was earlier arrested in 2015 by Calangute Police for dealing in cocaine on the Calangute coast.
