PANJIM: In a bid to provide better police protection, Goa police will shortly reorganize patrolling patterns and introduce highway patrolling round the clock.
“We are reorganizing patrolling patterns involving beat police, police control vans, bike patrolling and night patrolling in the wake of tourist season and influx of tourists along the coastal belt,” DIG Dr O P Mishra told reporters Monday.
Five patrolling vans ~three in the north and two in South~ have been inducted into the existing fleet. The IPS officer said the patrolling vans have been given dedicated beat and mandate. Highway patrolling, which will cater to senior citizens or stranded people in distress and offer them assistance as part of special initiatives of the department.
The police force, reeling from drugs scam in 2010-11 involving several anti narcotics cell officers, has begun scrutinizing antecedents of the officers who wish to join the elite force. “Character antecedent and background of the officer is being checked before deputing officers to ANC,” Mishra said.
Mishra also said that ANC has been keeping a close watch on the kiosks near educational institution after media reports claimed that narcotics were being supplied to students. Elements suspected to be involved in the drugs related activities are under scanner.
