Cops urged to clamp down on touts in Calangute

CALANGUTE: Activists, villagers and former panchayat members have demanded that the police clamp down on illegal activities and touts, and to keep unruly tourists at bay Calangute.

The villagers were furious after a video went viral on social media earlier this week showing a tout trying to solicit customers for  prostitution activities.

“We have been very vocal against illegal touts. Police have to do their job rightly. Only then these things will be reduced. Otherwise tourism will face unwanted attention this season also because of touts and other illegal activities,” Sudesh Mayekar, former deputy sarpanch, said.

Mayekar along with other activists had some months ago forcefully shut some illegal massage parlours where prostitution was allegedly going on.

“These illegal activities are spoiling Goa’s name. Be it dance bars, prostitution, drugs, touts or other immoral activities, all these things should be cleansed from the coastal belt,” a local Kundan Kerkar said.
