VASCO: State’s lone International Airport at Dabolim on Thursday evening was included in the list of other Indian airports for thermal screening of passengers for coronavirus infections.
Confirming the news of Government of India listing Goa Airport for screening of passengers for infections, Dabolim Airport director Gagan Malik said the AAI has already started working in this direction and added that the facility of thermal screening for coronavirus infections would be made available.
As per the Government’s instructions, Malik informed that AAI has already started the process to install the thermal screening facility at the airport wherein passengers from abroad would be screened.
Meanwhile, looking at the severity of the epidemic in China, National Congress Party (NCP), State president Jose Philip D’Souza strongly demanded a screening facility for passengers at Dabolim Airport for infections.
D’Souza mentioned that the government authorities have neglected the Mormugao Port area wherein large number of tourists from China,
Singapore, Vietnam, etc, enter Goa via waterways,
“I strongly demand that MPT chairman and the concerned government authorities should also install thermal screening facility at the Harbour Port where tourists enter via cruise liners so that there should be no room for the infection to spread in Goa” he said.
He informed that he has spoken to the Dean of the Goa Medical College Hospital, on the issue and would put forth his demand with regards to the people’s safety before the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
