PANJIM: The General Secretary of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Janardhan Bhandari in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has alleged various irregularities and gross corruption at the check posts on Goa border.
Bhandari, who is also incharge of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Youth Congress, has stated in the memorandum that the check posts at the entry points to Goa have turned out to be the dens of corruptions with the officials of various departments involved in gross irregularities and corruption.
In the memorandum to the CM, a copy of which is sent to the media, Bhandari has submitted that the youth teams of Goa Congress after visiting the various check posts in Goa, namely Polem, Dhargal, Dodamarg, Keri and Mollem have observed various irregularities by the officials of various departments.
Giving details of the observations made by the Congress team, Bhandari has demanded immediate corrective actions from the government including immediate strict action against all the officials involved in irregularities and corruption.
Through the memorandum, Bhandari has brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that the gates at various check points are kept open at all times, thus allowing free movement of vehicles without proper documents, carrying illegal and contraband goods including narcotic drugs, human trafficking etc for criminal activities.
The officials of various departments posted here are found resting or busy on their cell phones, thus overlooking at the movements of vehicles and other commuters. It has also highlighted that the CCTV cameras are found defunct on most of the check posts.
It is further stated that the unrestricted transportation of formalin laced fish and chemically treated fruits and vegetable and other altered/unhygienic food items which are dangerous for Goans is brought into the State by paying bribes to these officials.
Speaking to Herald Bhandari said that he has also raised questions on police personnel on duty at various check posts, as they are found to be not properly armed and are not fit and equipped to tackle emergency situations.
The memorandum has also highlighted that there is no proper monitoring by the RTO officials at the check posts.
