PANJIM: Alleging that the corruption in Goa has reached an “all-time high”, the Congress on Sunday requested Governor Satya Pal Malik to order Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to release a “performance report” on corruption during the BJP-led government tenure since 2012.
In a press statement, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar alleged that the corruption has reached all time high since BJP came to power in 2012 under then Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar and subsequent CMs Laxmikant Parsekar and now Dr Pramod Sawant.
“Now, the Lokayukta has given a certificate to the BJP government on corruption. We request Governor to order Chief Minister to release a “Performance Report” on corruption,” he urged.
Chodankar was referring to the recent special report submitted by Goa Lokayukta P K Misra to Governor expressing unhappiness over State government’s failure to file First Information Report (FIR) against former CM Parsekar, ex-secretary mines Pawan Kumar Sain and director mines Prasanna Acharya in connection with the illegal renewals of the mining leases.
“The Governor should also ask the Chief Minister to release the details of total number of reports given by the Lokayukta demanding inquiry in to various corruption issues and the action taken by the government on the same till date,” Chodankar requested.
The Congress president informed that the Lokayukta has now ordered inquiry into the renewal of Mining leases and has submitted his second report to the Governor. “The Lokayukta had earlier ordered inquiry into beach cleaning and Cyber-age scams. However, the government did not take any action,” he reminded.
Listing out various issues, Chodankar claimed that State government is now planning to pay Rs 123 crore to the Special Economic Zone promoters, which were actually cancelled by the Congress Government.
“The gross corruption in infrastructure development of National Games came to the fore with 300 tin sheets getting blown off last year from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The scam in lifeguards’ contract is well known to all,” he charged.
Chodankar alleged that the major scams in crores paid to Mhadei legal team, formalin scam, Regional Plan and conversion scam, Investment Promotion Board scam have helped the BJP Government to create a record in scams and scandals.
