Corruption is a culture in Goa, says Misquita

Says short dresses and suits at funerals in culture of Goa just as chewing pan is culture of India

VASCO: Clarifying his statement on ‘drinking is a part of Goan culture’ Commissioner for NRI Affairs Dr Wilfred Misquita stated that drinking is a culture in Goa and it can also be said as the style in Goa.
Dr Misquita was speaking to Herald on the sidelines of the inauguration of a foreign brand of Five Star Chicken Fast Food Center at Chicalim on Saturday.
“One should not take a literal meaning of what I said. While drinking is a culture in Goa, eating a pan is the culture in India. Sport is not a culture in India, but corruption is a culture in South East Asia,” he said.
“Ladies’ wearing short dress is a culture in Goa and if women wear short dress and walk on the street in other parts of India, every one tries to look at them, while in Goa no one takes a note of the dressing. So also, men wearing a suit at funeral is a culture in Goa,” stated Dr Misquita.
When asked what he meant by corruption is a culture in South East Asia and whether India and Goa also features in the corruption list in South East Asia, Dr Misquita said, “Definitely, corruption is a culture in India and Goa, as it comes in South East Asia.”
While complimenting Nazir Khan, owner of the fast food centre, Dr Misquita said the fast food centre will go a long way, as this lifestyle is picking up in Goa.
