Cortalim passes resolution against road closure

All three affected panchayats will file a writ petition against the proposed road diversion, warn locals

VASCO: Cortalim Panchayat at a special gram sabha passed a resolution against the Cortalim-Verna road closure. The villagers have vowed that all the three affected panchayats will remain united and threatened to file a writ petition against the proposed road diversion.
The members vehemently opposed the route diversion for completion of work.
“We think that the bridge work has to be undertaken without closing the road. However, the contractor is eyeing for the bonus money for early commission and also to save time”, Cortalim Deputy Sarpanch Raymond D’Sa alleged.
He claimed that the contractor has still not constructed the service road despite being paid for the same in the tender. Such a huge Mandovi bridge was built without road closure,” said Raymond and warned that “We will file a writ petition against the proposed road diversion.
A local said, “22 kms diversion for a stretch of 2 kms will result in treacherous journey for motorists and locals. Already people are worried with the rising fuel prices and this diversion is going to add to their problems”.
Earlier, Sancoale sarpanch also rejected the diversion plan as it will be inconvenient for the people of Goa.
