Cortalim VP may reopen on Monday

VASCO: The Cortalim Panchayat is likely to resume its operations from Monday onwards.

It may be recalled that the panchayat had been closed for the last nine days after a staffer tested positive for COVID-19.

Sarpanch Senia Pereira said, “The decision to shut the office was taken to ensure the safety of the people visiting the panchayat. A panchayat staff had undergone a COVID test as he had developed some symptoms and after his test results came positive, all staff members feared that they may contract the infection.”

“To avoid any further panic, I contacted Dr Succor Quadros of Cortalim PHC, who requested all the panchayat staff to undergo the COVID test. In these tests, one of the staff tested positive, while there is not clarity on the results of two staffers,” Senia informed.

Pereira said, “We have contacted the Block Development Officer of Mormugao who has communicated to us that the panchayat can be reopened on Monday after the test results of the other staff are out and following clarity on the issue”.
