SANGUEM: Residents of Costi, Kalay have been facing severe water crisis for the last many months and authorities are just ignoring their various complaints.
The villagers disclosed that earlier they used to get proper water supply, but that has suddenly stopped now. “We get water for only two hours in a day and that too only from 7 am to 9 am,” said Amar Naik.
Though there is water in their taps for two hours, the pressure is so low that it does not go up to fill their overhead tanks disclosed Naik.
Very often, residents of this ward are forced to go to neighbouring wards to collect water required by their households and it is quite common to see huge water bottles being carried on scooters.
“To make matters worse, our village is brought under the jurisdiction of Dharbandora instead of keeping it under the water supply office at Sanguem,” he complained pointing out that Sanguem is barely 10 kms away for them while Dharbandora is more than 15 kms away.
He pointed out that while water supply to their village is managed by the Sanguem office of Water Supply Department, complaints have to be lodged with the Dharbandora office.
“This appears to be just a mean to harass us as after lodging a complaint with Dharbandora office, they contact the Sanguem office to attend to the problem as water is supplied by them,” said Naik.
This dichotomy is only because Costi, Kalay is part of the Sanvordem Assembly constituency which is brought under newly created Dharbandora taluka.
“Due to these lopsided policies of the government which prefers to go by the book instead of looking at the ground reality, we the poor villagers have to suffer,” he said.
