CANACONA: A Cotigao resident working as a driver at the Canacona Police Station was on Saturday arrested for allegedly abusing and biting the sarpanch over the location of public taps at Yeda, Cotigao. The accused was later released on bail.
Cotigao sarpanch Umesh Gaonkar in his complaint stated that the accused Genu Velip started clicking his pictures via mobile phone and when Gaonkar objected to this, the accused started abusing him. As the Sarpanch tried to block the accused from further taking his pictures, Genu bit the complainant, who was later admitted to the Canacona Health
Centre (CHC) for palpitation and high blood sugar levels. The CHC doctors later shifted Gaonkar to Hospicio, Margao as the Centre lacked full-fledged medical facilities. The sarpanch was kept under observation till late Saturday, as doctors said his blood pressure had stabilised but the sugar levels were high.
Canacona police said that Genu was arrested under Sections 324 and 504 of the IPC.
PI Rajendra Prabhudesai said that the accused was sent to the Goa Dental College, Bambolim for bite mark analysis but has been called on Monday.
The case is being investigated by PSI Ramchandra Naik under the supervision of PI Rajendra Prabhudesai.
