CANACONA: A Cotigao resident who had jumped in to a deep open well, reportedly, to end his life was rescued by a daring act of emergency rescue team from the local fire station.
Sources at Canacona fire office said that they had to attend to an emergency call on Saturday when a local from Cotigao called and said that someone from the locality fell into a well and struggling to stay afloat.
Immediately, a rescue team led by leading fire fighter Ulhas Gaonkar consisting of driver operator Sanjay Jadhav and firemen Omresh Mokhardkar, Chandrahas Pagi Nitin Naik, Vasant Velip and Vivek Naik reached the spot.
After assessing the situation Ulhas Gaonkar descended into the about 20 mts deep well and carried the drowning person on his shoulders and brought him out of the well.
Later, he was identified to be Prabhakar Devidas from the same locality.
Members of the rescue team said that he must have decided to end his life as told by his neighbour.
