AGONDA: Cotigao panchayat was awarded Best Tourism Village for the year 2023 by Central Nodal Agency for Rural Tourism on Wednesday at New Delhi at the hands of Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Tourism.
Dr Kamakshi Maheshwari, nodal officer, Central Nodal Agency for Rural Tourism, Union Tourism secretary V Vidyavathi and other dignitaries were present during the award ceremony which took place at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. Cotigao was the only panchayat from Goa to win the award.
It can be recalled that Canacona municipality was adjudged best city in India Swachata League last year in under 15K population category. In June, Agonda panchayat was the only panchayat from Goa which was shortlisted for the National Panchayat Awards in ‘Clean and Green’ category.
“Three consecutive awards have been bagged by civic bodies from Canacona which deal with looking after the environment. As a representative of this constituency, I am immensely proud of this honor,” said Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.
Panch members of various panchayats have congratulated Cotigao panchayat for the award.
