As part of this initiative, the foundation stone for the first Sanskruti Bhavan, to be constructed through the GSIDC, was laid at Edda-Cotigao on Saturday.
The Sanskruti Bhavan will be of benefit to the tribal communities in respective villages as it would serve as a hall for occasions, community activities, cultural functions, etc.
The foundation stone for the Cotigao Sanskruti Bhavan, one of the six such Bhavans to be constructed at Rs 11.35 crore in Canacona taluka alone, was unveiled by GSIDC Vice Chairman Dr Pramod Sawant, after Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar earlier lit the traditional lamp at Edda.
Others present on the occasion included Director of Tribal Welfare Sandhya Kamat, Cotigao Sarpanch Meena Umesh Gaonkar and Dy Sarpanch Datta Velip.
M/s Murty and Manyam, locally represented by Architect Armino Ribeiro, is the consultant for the Cotigao Sanskruti Bhavan and the works has been tendered along with Sanskruti Bhavans at Adarsh Gram, Amone-Poinguinim, Gaondongrim, Kulgati and Gullem villages.The project is likely to be completed in 12 months.
