COTPA cases booked in Vasco

VASCO: The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad on Monday conducted inspections in Vasco city to check violations against the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 (COTPA). 

The enforcement squad booked cases for violation of Section 4 and 6 (a) and recovered fines of Rs 2,800 mainly from kisoks and bars and restaurants.

The squad which was led by Joint Mamlatdar III Dhiren Banavalikar and GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins were accompanied by the mamlatdar office staff and Vasco police. The squad which covered the Pixem Dongrim area of Vasco found the violation of Section 4 of COTPA in bars which have licences from the Excise Department and restaurants which have licences from the Directorate of Food and Drug Administration and the same will be reported to the South Goa District Collector. 

To ensure the compliance of Section 4 of COTPA in bars and restaurants, the Enforcement Squad will recommend to the South Goa District Collector that compliance reports be filed by the officials of Directorate of Food and Drug Administration and Excise when the licences and NOCs are being renewed for the financial year 2020-21.
