Councillor urges MMC, TCP to resolve kabrastan issue soon

MARGAO: Led by Councillor Mahesh Amonkar, locals urged the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) and the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department to resolve the Margao kabrastan issue at the earliest.

After visiting various authorities, Amonkar questioned how the change of zone was allowed at Sonsoddo where the original kabrastan site is located.

He also questioned why the local MLAs had not raised objections to this change of zone which would mean this kabrastan site is no longer an option for the Muslim community.

Amonkar urged TCP Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar to revert the zone back and also asked for details about the ownership of the land to be made clear to the community.

Locals pointed out that they had already spent money for the kabrastan and that their funds should be returned if there is going to be yet another change to the kabrastan plans. Amonkar added that the main demand of the Muslim community is for the kabrastan to be set up at the earliest. Locals also pointed out that another site had been selected and said ultimately the project should be completed soon.
