PANJIM: Slamming Chief Minister for his statement that the government had given adequate grants to the Sankhali Municipal Council, the ruling councillors on Monday alleged that the Chief Minister had only harassed and misused government machinery against them in a bid to wrest control of the council.
Addressing a press conference, former Sankhali chairperson and present councillor Dharmesh Saglani said on eight occasions they had to approach the court against the government’s illegalities and irregularities and sought justice. There was no full-time chief officer and the chief officer was transferred as many as 20 times.
Saglani said though the phase-I of Sankhali bus stand was inaugurated on Christmas Day, the file for occupancy certificate was submitted to the municipality on Monday. He alleged that the chief officer was refusing to implement resolutions passed by the council under pressure from the government.
Saglani also demanded that the government should give Octroi to all municipal councils to tide over the financial crisis.
SMC vice chairperson Raya Parsekar said most projects in the town were approved during the tenure of then Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane.
