Margao Municipal Councilors who did not find favour with the city’s powers that be find no place in the statutory committees constituted by the civic body, even as Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s cousin brother Laxmikant Kamat was unanimously elected the Chairman of the subject Committee.
In the elections held on Friday, all the posts of the Standing Committee and the Subjects Committee were filled up unanimously. Outgoing MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho’s wife, Pratima, Raju Naik and Arthur D’Silva, were amongst the councillors who do not figure on the Statutory Committees.
The members of the Standing Committee comprises of Sadanand Naik, Mayenkar Dhananjay Raghuvir, Tito Cardozo and Damodar SHirodkar. The Municipal Chairperson is the ex-officio Chairperson of the Standing Committee.
Members of the Subject Committee consisting of markets, gardens and library are Babita Naik, Joseph D’Silva, Vinay Shirodkar and Dayanand Deulkar. Municipal Vice Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello is the Chairman of the Market committee.
As far as the subject Committee on Sanitation, development and garbage is concerned, Rosy Pereira, Sangeeta Audi, Laxmikant Kamat, Carmina Rodrigeus and Bindiya Naik were elected the members, who in turn unanimously Laxmikant as the Chairman of the Committee.
Meanwhile, Councilor Sadanand Naik sought to know from the chairperson why notice of the meeting has not been sent to the Curtorim MLA, Reginaldo Lourenco as the two wards of the Housing Board area of the city are now part of the new Curtorim constituency.
The Chief Officer Prasanna Acharya and the Chairperson Sushila Naik maintained that the suggestion would be taken note of as and when the situation arises, as the housing board area of Margao Municipality is now part of the Curtorim Assembly constituency.
Naik also demanded to know the whereabouts of drain slabs which were earmarked for the outgoing Councilors in the last body, but were not put to use in the wards
