Couple waiting for Laadli Laxmi Scheme from 2019

PANJIM: Annoyed over the delay in sanctioning the Laadli Laxmi Scheme, a couple informed Herald at the Department of Women and Child Development office that they were waiting for the scheme from 2019.

The couple said they had made an application for the scheme in 2019.

“It can be understood that the delay caused in sanctioning of scheme was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The application for availing the scheme was made online but we never received any prompt message regarding its acceptance or rejection. Therefore we had come for a follow-up to the office,” the couple told this reporter when they met at the office.

The reason, they were annoyed, they said, “Was because the office staff failed to furnish them the correct information regarding the sanctioning of scheme.”

It was also observed that the office landline phone outside the director’s cabin which is meant for public enquiry was continuously ringing but no one was actually bothered to pick up the call in spite of a person present behind the desk. The overall experience forced Herald to think about why beneficiaries must be getting annoyed with the office staff and with availing the government benefits.

Director of Women and Child Department Deepali Naik whilst giving details of the status of pending and received applications of Laadli Laxmi and Griha Aadhar schemes said, “For the Laadli Laxmi Scheme 19,471 applications are pending. In case of the Griha Aadhar Scheme, 12, 658 are pending.”
