PANJIM: The Additional District and Sessions Court Mapusa has dismissed the application filed by former Editor in Chief of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal, to release his passport, which was deposited when he was granted bail.
Tejpal had moved an application before the District and Sessions Judge on Friday seeking the release of his passport. He is being tried in the court for allegedly raping a former colleague.
On Saturday the prosecution, replying to the application objected to release of the passport. After hearing the prosecution’s arguments, Tejpal’s counsel withdrew the application and then the Judge dismissed it.
In 2013, when he was editor-in-chief of Tehelka, Tejpal was accused of rape by a female colleague, who in her complaint to the police alleged that she was raped in the elevator of a five-star resort in Goa where the magazine was hosting an international conclave.
Following the registration of FIR, Tejpal was arrested and remained in police and judicial custody for nearly a year, before being released on bail.
