PANJIM: In a setback to the M/s Highstreet Cruises and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, the High Court of Bombay at Goa has refused to grant a stay on National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) order directing the firm to stop its casino vessel’s operations until CRZ clearance.

The court noted that the appeal should be filed before the Supreme Court instead, after which the company withdrew its petition.

M/s Highstreet had challenged the order of the NGT restraining offshore casino vessel Deltin Carevela and its flotel from operating in River Mandovi without the mandatory requirement of CRZ clearance.

Last week, the Principal Bench headed by Chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel while directing to stop operations until CRZ clearance also directed the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to assess and recover compensation for damage to the environment on account of operations by the Deltin Carevala, without requisite CRZ clearance, by following due process of the law.

The company had thereafter moved the high court seeking relief.
