Ponda: There is a sense of panic amongst the villagers of Bethora following the news of a truck driver from Gujarat testing positive for COVID-19.
Locals have also called for better testing at the border before persons/vehicles are allowed entry, especially truck drivers.
They point out that former PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar and others have made similar demands.
Further, there is a concern as trucks pass by the village and park at the road side. Bethora
Sarpanch Durgaprasad Vaidy informed that there has been a demand for the testing of eight workers at a roadside dhaba where the Gujarat truck driver may have come in contact with as he had allegedly stopped at that eating joint earlier.
Sources said that the workers are being checked and their test results are awaited. However, as per the locals suggestion, the Sarpanch asked around 40 shops to remain shut for 15 days.
